Talented Young Scientist Program 2025

Background

The Talented Young Scientists Program (TYSP) is a key initiative established by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST) in 2013 to promote exchanges and collaboration between Chinese and international young scientists, cultivate future leaders in science and technology, and facilitate substantive international cooperation in science and technology.

Guided by the principles of merit-based selection, people-orientation, openness and inclusiveness, and mutual learning on an equal footing, the TYSP program provides funding for eligible international talented young scientists, scholars, and researchers to conduct academic exchanges and work in China. The goal is to strengthen scientific research capacity and innovation capability in partner countries, enhance science and humanities exchanges between China and overseas, offer a high-quality platform for mutual learning among young scientists, establish long-term and stable partnerships in science and technology with relevant countries, and pool consensus and strength to enhance people-to-people connectivity.

Eligibility Requirements

1. To qualify for this program, applicants should obtain a recommendation letter from one of the following institutions (hereinafter referred to as “recommending institutions”).:
– the national science and technology authority of the applicant’s home country; or
– national science and technology foundation, or relevant international organization/research institution; or
– the embassy or consulate of the applicants’ home country in China;
– China’s embassy/consulate (or mission) abroad, or overseas office of the China Association for International Exchange of Personnel.

2. The applicants should be from a Belt and Road partner country or another developing country;

3. The applicants should formal employment in one of the above-mentioned countries, engaged in scientific research or science and technology policy studies;

4. The applicants should hold a Ph.D degree or have at least 5 years of research experience;

5. The applicants should demonstrate strong research competence or potential;

6. The applicants should be under 45 years old (calculated as of the date of the intended position) and in good health;

7. The applicants should have good communication skills in English or Chinese;

8. The applicants should be able to work full-time in China during the application period;

9. The applicants must comply with Chinese laws, regulations, and other relevant rules.

10. International talented youth must work together with Chinese researchers.

1. Stamped Job Application Form (from institution)

2. Certificate of Highest Academic Qualification

3. Proof of Employment from home country

4. Signed & stamped Letter of Employment Consent (Chinese & English)

5. Letter of Recommendation from an authorized institution (Reference: Declaration Conditions No. 1)

6. Letter of Commitment (from host institution)

Funding & Support

1. Implementation Period / Project Duration

The duration of the program is categorized into three types based on the length of stay of each International Young Scientist in China: 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months.

2. Funding amount

The planned funding amount is 20,000 RMB per month (pre tax), and the specific amount depends on the working period:

       3 months: 60,000 RMB (pre tax)

       6 months: 120,000 RMB (pre tax)

      12 months: 240,000 RMB (pre tax)

Application Deadline

The application deadline of Talented Young Scientist Program is April 24th, 2025 (Beijing Time).
