Background
The Interdisciplinary Materials and Devices (IMD) Group at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China （UESTC）and the Shimmer Center of Tianfu Jiangxi Laboratory are now jointly conducting a global recruitment effort to find postdoctoral fellows, assistant researchers, associate researchers, and researchers. Our aim is to gather global talent to drive advancements in fundamental scientific research and innovation in cutting-edge technologies. The IMD Center focuses on fundamental scientific research aiming for the highest goals, while the Shimmer Center is dedicated to the practical application of cutting-edge technology. Through the complementary strengths of IMD and Shimmer, we strive to advance scientific research from “0 to 1” and achieve technological breakthroughs from “1 to 100”.
IMD Group
The Interdisciplinary Materials and Devices (IMD) Group of UESTC, is devoted to the growth and physical study of semiconductor nanomaterials, as well as the development of nano-optoelectronic devices and integration. This includes nano-light sources, photodetectors, and artificial micro/nano photonic structures. The IMD has undertaken numerous prestigious projects, including the National Key R&D Program, the Innovative Talent Base in Higher Education, the “973” Program, key projects from the JW Science and Technology Commission, projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the National Foreign Expert Recruitment Program, and the Sichuan International Cooperation Base Program, with a total funding exceeding 70 million RMB. The team’s research achievements have been featured multiple times on the covers of leading journals such as Advanced Materials and Advanced Energy Materials, as well as highlighted on the homepage of Science Advances. In 2019, the IMD center was the only entity from mainland China shortlisted for the IET Innovation Awards.
The IMD Group is oriented towards the global frontier of science and technology, addressing major national needs. It conducts a series of innovative research in fields such as semiconductor photonic (optoelectronic) devices, plasmonic photonics, integrated photonics, and material computation and simulation. The team’s achievements have been published in internationally renowned academic journals such as Nature and Science.
The IMD Group employs an internationalized, interdisciplinary educational approach, gathering a group of top-tier faculty from both home and abroad, aimed at cultivating high-quality academic and research talents with a global perspective. Currently, the team includes 4 full-time professors, 3 researchers, and 4 distinguished associate researchers. Adhering to an international standard for talent cultivation, the IMD has enrolled 13 postdoctoral fellows from various countries and regions, along with 25 doctoral students and 30 master’s students.

3. Position Requirements:
- Postdoctoral Fellows
(1) Recent PhD graduates or those who have received their PhD within the past three years, generally under the age of 35；
(2) Candidate should have a background relevant to the discipline, with strong English communication and academic writing skills；
(3) Candidate must have published papers as the first author in SCI journals；
(4) Interested in scientific research with strong professional ethics and rigorous academic style, capable of conducting independent research and working collaboratively within a team.
- Assistant Researchers
(1) Recent PhD graduates or those who have received their PhD within the past three years, generally under the age of 35；
(2) Candidate should have a background relevant to the discipline, with strong English communication and academic writing skills；
(3) Candidate must have published papers as the first author in SCI journals；
(4) Interested in scientific research with strong professional ethics and rigorous academic style, capable of conducting independent research and working collaboratively within a team.
- Associate Researchers
(1) Candidate must have obtained a doctoral degree in a related field from a renowned university or research institution, with postdoctoral research experience or at least two years of overseas research experience, and must be under the age of 35；
(2) A recipient of national-level projects, or capable of applying for National, Provincial, or Chinese Academy of Sciences Talent Programs and Research Projects based at the Tianfu Jiangxi Laboratory；
(3) Candidate has published at least three papers as the first author or corresponding author in high-level journals in the field within the last five years.
- Researchers
(1) Candidate must have obtained a doctoral degree in a relevant field from a prestigious university or research institution, with a senior or higher academic title, and must be under the age of 40；
(2) Candidate Should hold a position equivalent to or higher than Associate Professor in internationally recognized universities or research institutions, with high research standards and strong innovation capabilities, or be a senior technical professional in a well-known international company；
(3) Candidate must have secured a National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) general project or a project of equivalent level.
Salary and Benefits
- Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Researcher: Annual salary not less than RMB 300,000.
- Associate Researcher: Annual salary not less than RMB 360,000.
- Researcher: Annual salary not less than RMB 420,000.
- Salaries will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
